Hi, I'm Paige Hutto
In 2016, I graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Deaf/Hard of Hearing Education, Cum Laude. After graduation, I moved to Houston to start teaching as a 2nd/3rd Grade Deaf Education teacher at Calvert Elementary. During my first year, I received the "Extra Miler" award for going above and beyond for my students. I taught there until the North Harris County Regional Day School Program moved to Ogden Elementary. While at Ogden Elementary, I had my first opportunity to mentor a first-year teacher. In 2019, I moved to Magrill EC/PreK/K to start teaching early childhood and still teach there today. Throughout my teaching career, I have helped host events for Deaf/Hard of Hearing families such as Thanksgiving Feast, Parents are the Key, and Spring Carnival. A popular booth I ran at events was "Dinner Table Syndrome." This booth taught families the importance of bringing their Deaf/Hard of Hearing children into conversations, specifically at the dinner table. In 2019, my fellow Deaf Educators learned about SPICE, an auditory training program, from a district staff development I hosted. In addition, I have taught community sign language for the Aldine ISD community. These classes are an option for parents to take as part of Family and Community Engagement's Parent University. I have partnered with Family and Community Engagement to promote literacy to present stories in sign language during online storytime. During the Fall 2019 semester, my assistant principal recruited me to teach English to Spanish-speaking parents as part of an after-school grant for parents. Currently, I am busy growing language in students who are three years old and entering school for the first time. I am also active on Twitter (@MsHutto_DeafEd) to inform people about Deaf/Hard of Hearing students' unique needs.
